Why join CLTC?

TENNIS FOR EVERYONE. Whatever your age and however well (or badly!) you play tennis, you will find a warm welcome at our club. There is no playing-in standard, so players who are new to the game, or a bit rusty after a few years' break, will still find suitable partners and opponents.  For more experienced player, we will also try to introduce you to people of a similar standard to play with. Just ask any committee member to have a hit with you, or email the members' representative to arrange this. And if you are interested in competitive play (see below) email the men's or ladies' captains, and they will arrange to meet you.

JUST TURN UP AND PLAY. One of the very special things about our Club is that you can turn up on any summer evening after 6pm or weekend afternoon after 2 pm and more-or-less be certain to be able to find people of a similar standard to play tennis with. You do not have to come with a partner or an opponent.  The club has two courts with floodlights which can be booked for the winter evenings - the club is usually bustling with activity every weekend right through the year - we are a hardy lot!

BALLS SUPPLIED throughout the summer season, and available to buy at very reasonable prices from the pro-shop all year round. Contact TopSpin Tennis for details.

IT NEVER RAINS. Well actually it does sometimes, but not as often as it does even quite close by, because of our location in the lee of Coton Hill. Even if it is damp, the artificial grass courts provide a non-slip surface.

JUNIORS WELCOME Juniors have exactly the same rights of access to the courts as any other member. On Fridays through the summer months, there is a special junior evening when a coach will supervise junior play and make sure that young players find opponents and get to play organised games. 4-7s must be accompanied by a parent, but the over 8s can come alone and will be helped to join in and mix with other players. There is a singles mini-league for juniors who would like to join in, and top juniors can enter the adult mini league and are eligible for selection for the men's and ladies' teams too. We particularly encourage juniors to join one of our many coaching programmes, to help them achieve their full potential in the game, and those that show real promise will be invited to join one of the club's junior development sessions.

FREE COACHING VOUCHERS FOR JUNIOR & MINI MEMBERS All Junior & Mini members receive 6 free coaching sessions. Coaching vouchers worth £33 are included in all mini and family memberships and coaching vouchers worth £49.50 are included in all junior and family memberships commencing before 1st October.

LOTS OF COMPETITION if you want it. We have many teams competing with other clubs around the county, as well as veterans and various other formats at local and national level. Our  top men's teams consistently do very well in the National Club League. Details of fixtures and results for the club and all the other teams can be found on our fixtures pages

In addition to the club teams, there are a variety of closed and open tournaments throughout the season, ranging from the frequent informal Sunday afternoon "Get Together" American doubles format to various Cups and the Club Championships. You can now obtain (and improve) a Rating via the LTA Club Rating Scheme.

Singles Mini League This league was established to enable members to play singles regularly against players of a similar standard. The league runs throughout the year, with promotion and demotion every calendar month; there are around a dozen divisions so all abilities have something to play for.

COACHING AVAILABLE at all levels from beginner through to I-used-to-play-years-ago to advanced; lots of Junior coaching feeding up to County level - see the coaching page

WIMBLEDON TICKETS we have an excellent allocation of Wimbledon tickets every year; in the draw last May we were allocated 44 pairs of Wimbledon tickets and over 50% of people who put their name in the draw were successful.

FREE MEMBERSHIP OF HILLS ROAD SPORTS AND TENNIS CENTRE is included in the membership package for full members joining after 1st April 2008. The Centre has indoor courts, a gym and many other sports facilities that may be of interest to CLTC members when they're not playing tennis at the Club!

How much does membership cost?

Because we are a community club, run by volunteers for the benefit of the whole membership, we try to keep our membership fees as low as possible. The new season commences on the 1st April, but for anyone wishing to commence membership earlier than this we offer an inclusive rate from 1st January 2008 through to 31st  March 2009. How do I apply?

To join the club, just print and fill out the application form and hand it to a committee member at the club or send it to the Administrator at the club address. (Sorry, but we are not able to take payment by card yet - but are working on it).

You will then be sent a joining pack, which will include this season's shoe-tag (which should be worn at all times while you are at the club, to avoid the embarrassment of being asked whether you are a member!). You will also be sent the latest membership handbook, which gives you lots of details of all the activities at the club and how to get involved in them. It also lists the contact details for 2007/8 members.

PLEASE NOTE that the membership handbook is printed in March each year, so your name(s), will not be published the first year that you join. However, thereafter, the phone numbers and email will be published in the member's handbook, so if you want to keep these details (or some of them) out of the handbook please make this clear on your application form. Rest assured that we do not share our database with any third party.

Getting started

Joining a new club for the first time can be quite an intimidating experience, particularly if you don't know anyone, or if you aren't very confident in your tennis ability. So here are just five ways that we recommend to get you started:

Thursday evenings (in the summer) are our 'All Members Evenings' at the club, when the Members' Representative - or another committee member - will be at the club to welcome players and ensure that all new players get games with others of similar standard. This is a light-hearted evening, where the emphasis is very much on meeting new people and enjoying an evening of social tennis. Just turn up any time after 6.15pm, and you will be assured of a good evening's tennis.

If Thursdays are a problem for you, then the best times to turn up if you’re new and want to find people to play with are Saturday 2pm to 6pm, Sunday 2pm to 6pm, and Tuesdays and Wednesdays after 6 pm. Alternatively, contact our Members' Representative and arrange to meet at the club. He will suggest other times when there are likely to be other players of your standard at the club, and will make suitable introductions!

If you are particularly interested in competitive tennis, and might like to join one of our teams, then contact the Men's Captain or the Ladies' Captain, who will be able to suggest how best you can get involved. Squad practices are Saturday (ladies) and Sunday (men) mornings, and this might be a good time to start.

If you are relatively new to tennis, or have been out of the game for a while, you may prefer to join one of our coaching sessions. These are small group sessions where you are certain to meet others whose tennis is of a similar standard to your own, and your coach will ensure that you have plenty of opportunities to pair up with appropriate partners.

Friday evenings are our 'Beginner/Improver' evenings. If you are just starting out or want to gain confidence playing games, then Friday evenings are for you. Just turn up after 6.30pm and someone will be on hand to organise you into a game with other players of the same standard.
