Singles League Rules

The singles league is open to any member over the age of 16. In exceptional circumstances the tennis manager can approve a younger player.

Matches consist of 10 games and a tie-break to 7 points, the tie-break counts a a game. Each player scores the number of games won (eg. 11-0, 9-2, 6-5 etc). The final game is always a tie-break game regardless of the score at the time. Players must send their result by email to info@cambridgeltc.com and results will be updated on the web page.

The two players with the most games in each division at the end of a round are ‘promoted’ and the two with the least are ‘demoted’. Due to the number of players entering and leaving the league at each round, this will not necessarily reflect a simple change in division number; consider it as a movement relative to your opponents. If you win or lose extremely convincingly, you may be moved more than usual, at the discretion of the administrator. In the event of points being equal, the results between the relevant players will be used to determine who goes up/down.

If you are unable to complete a match once started, eg opponent gets injured, you may either rearrange to complete or to submit the scores as they finished. It is up to the players to decide.

If a match cannot be arranged due to lack of availability of either party or due to cancellation, a score for that match will only be allocated in very unusual circumstances and with agreement with the administrator. Under no circumstances should “walkover” scores for games not actually played be written on the score sheet without such agreement.

If you do not play at least two matches in any one round you will be removed from the leagues at the end of the round unless you contact the administrator with a satisfactory explanation before the end of the round. Players removed from the leagues in this manner will be forced to miss a round when they request to rejoin.

The league tables will be taken down at the end of each round. The next set of tables will be posted up on the notice board within a few days.

Playing Times

The restrictions to play during the season have been agreed to be as follows:

No singles league matches may be played during social tennis hours. Tuesday or Thursday evenings 6.30-9.30pm or Saturday or Sunday between 2 – 5pm.

These rules apply even if there are apparently courts free during these times. Any matches found to have been played during these times will be omitted by the administrator.

Prizes

There are annual trophies to be won that are handed out at the AGM for results during the season. These are awarded to:

The Singles League Champion (most games won in Division 1). The top Man and woman (most games regardless of division). The most points scored overall. The most improved player (the person who has gone up the most divisions)

FAQ

There is a FAQ here.

Singles league matches can count towards your LTA rating if you have/want one using the LTA Club Ratings scheme. Talk with one of the club coaches if you want an initial Club Rating.

Most of all, have fun and enjoy playing some competitive tennis!
